Intra-oral Cameras enable us to put a close-up picture of the tooth problem on a monitor so the patient can see and better understand what the dentist sees. It is a helpful tool in educating a patient in better hygiene practices. We can show them areas of heavy plaque or tarter accumulation on their teeth and show them how to reach these areas. It also helps us detect cracks in teeth that may not be detected by the naked eye. During a new patient exam, we often give you a tour of your mouth so you can gain a better perspective of your oral health.

Early Decay Detection Laser: Today decay is more difficult to detect than it was 20 years ago using traditional techniques alone. The use of fluoride makes teeth more resistant to decay: therefore, it has been added to tap water in many communities and to most toothpastes. Fluoride makes the outer surface of the tooth (enamel) more decay resistant, but if decay does penetrate the enamel, it spreads out dramatically deeper into the tooth. The cavity remains hidden by the intact enamel so early detection is very unlikely using traditional methods. In order to find these cavities early, we use an early decay detection laser called a Diagnodent. It is a low level laser that fluoresces the tooth and gives a reading which we interpret and diagnose decay. This allows the dentist to find decay sooner while it is still small, thus preserving more natural tooth structure. Using this technology, we can more effectively diagnose decay and maintain your oral health.

Computerized Injections: The discomfort usually felt during an injection from a traditional syringe is mainly the pressure of the injected solution. We use a device called the "Wand," which is a computer that injects the anesthetic at a slow calculated rate so the patient does not feel this sudden discomfort. Not only does the "Wand" inject the anesthetic more comfortably, it also is less intimidating-looking than a syringe. It is shaped like a pen. For patients with high anxiety about "getting the needle," the "Wand" is a very welcomed alternative.

Caesy System: The educational program plays on our monitors continuously in our hygiene rooms. It describes the different dental procedures possible and why they are done. For example, you can watch a tutorial on how veneers can improve a smile and how they are made or a demonstration on why a tooth may need a crown, all while you are relaxing and having your teeth cleaned. For the kids, there is "Buddy Goes to the Dentist" (Buddy is a puppy) and an actual monkey demonstrating how to brush and floss.
